Not Now Edith!

People who never shut up and just talk to be talking really annoy me.

I think everyone knows someone like this. I guess they have a problem with silence. They always have the TV or radio going although they are not paying attention to it. They will comment on something on the TV, regardless as to whether you are paying any attention to what's showing or playing.

It really annoys me when I'm trying to read or write something, and they ask me a question about something on the television, when it's very clear that I am trying to concentrate on what I'm doing. Sometimes, I give the exaggerated look like I'm trying to concentrate, does no good. They continue to interrupt and cluck away. They tell me stories about people I have no clue as to who they are, and as if I've known them and their kids for years. In my mind, I say, "I don't know who or what you're talking about! I'm trying to do something here. Can't you see that?" But I don't. I look at them and listen and then, just when I think they're done and I start concentrating again, they start up another story.

Now, I know how Archie Bunker felt when Edith would get on one of her story telling rants. He would pull out an imaginary revolver, load it. Spin the loader, point it to his temple and pull the trigger. Then spin it again, pull the trigger and act like the bullet had hit it's mark. His head would go limp and he would stick his tongue out. All during this, Edith would continue her story, never missing a beat, completely oblivious to his actions.

Ok Ok, I do realize that these people are probably really lonely and are starved for attention and companionship. So don't chastise me for not having compassion. I do have it for them. I guess no one has told them. Or perhaps, they too, are just being nice.
